Susan has designed over 300 productions worldwide for theatre, opera, film and dance.

London: costumes for Spring Awakening (Novello); Flying Karamazov Brothers' 4Play (Vaudeville); August Wilson's Jitney (National Theatre). Scenery, costumes and associate director for Athol Fugard's My Children! My Africa!; A Place with the Pigs (National Theatre); Valley Song (Royal Court); Playland (Donmar Warehouse). Set and costume designer for Athol Fugard's Sorrows and Rejoicings (Tricycle).

Directorial collaborators include: Michael Mayer, James Lapine, Robert Falls, James MacDonald, Richard Nelson, the late Garland Wright, Mark Lamos, Frank Galati, Des McAnuff, Bartlett Sher, Doug Wright, Laurie Anderson, Tony Kushner, Garry Hynes, and David Jones.

Recent designs include: Sondheim on Sondheim (Roundabout); Frank Wildhorn's Wonderland (Broadway); Manon (Orquestra de la Generalitat, Valencia); The Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus 2011 and Tony Kushner's The Illusion (Signature).

Trained at Yale, she chairs the Department of Design for Stage and Film at New York University' Tisch School of the Arts. Her many awards include 2004 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards, Australia's Helpman and Green Room Awards, and an Olivier nomination for Wicked.
