The Bristol Hippodrome today announced that smash hit musical WICKED broke box office records last week, with the highest grossing week of performances in the theatre’s history. WICKED will have been seen by over 70,000 people by the time it completes its run on Saturday 3 March. Last week alone, it was seen by almost 17,000 people, grossing over £820,000 at the box office. Last remaining ticket availability is at Monday-Wednesday evening performances and mid-week matinees.

Michael McCabe, Executive Producer (UK) of WICKED said: “We are greatly indebted to the incredible audiences at Bristol Hippodrome. Their generous support of, and ecstatic reaction to, the show has been humbling and, on behalf of the entire company, I’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to them and to Jenny Hutchinson and her brilliant team for helping us break this Box Office record.”

Jenny Hutchinson, Theatre Director, The Bristol Hippodrome said: “We are incredibly proud of the reaction to Wicked at The Bristol Hippodrome and feel truly privileged to showcase such a spectacular production. This show is testament to the strength of live theatre and we are thrilled there is so much affection for Wicked from our local audiences. We are delighted with the show’s success, and very much hope to welcome Wicked back to the Bristol Hippodrome in the future.”

The cast features Amy Ross as Elphaba, Helen Woolf as Glinda, Aaron Sidwell (best known as ‘Steven Beale’ in EastEnders) as Fiyero, Steven Pinder (best known as ‘Max Farnham’ in Brookside) as The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond, Kim Ismay as Madame Morrible, Emily Shaw as Nessarose and Iddon Jones as Boq. WICKED is already the 15th longest running show in West End theatre history and is now in its 12th year at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, where it continues an open-ended run. Based on the acclaimed, best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagines the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, WICKED tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

WICKED has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted and, for DreamWorks, The Prince of Egypt) and is based on the novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ by Gregory Maguire and adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life). Musical staging is by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento and the production is directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello.

WICKED is produced around the world by Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. Executive Producer (UK & Ireland) Michael McCabe.
